Statement on recent media coverage of the Bridehead Estate
On 28th June 2025 the Guardian newspaper published an article referencing the Bridehead Estate and the village of Littlebredy. It purported that an ‘entire village is facing eviction’ and that ‘the people … say they have been ordered to leave from January’. Belport Ltd, as estate manager for the Estate, categorically refutes these statements. We are unaware of the source of this information. We have written to the residents of the properties in Littlebredy under our management to confirm the inaccuracy of the article, and to apologise for any distress that its publication caused.
Belport's background is in estate management, and our goal is to modernise and improve our estates through ongoing investment. With this in mind, our intention is to refurbish all our homes in Littlebredy to bring them up to the legal energy and safety standards required of all landlords. Whilst this may entail disruption for tenants in some cases, we will liaise with the relevant individuals at the appropriate time to ensure this is minimised.
The Guardian article also raised concerns about the restriction of access to parts of the Estate. Some areas have been closed to facilitate a review of safety arrangements and access to areas of open water and trees. Once the review has been completed, and any necessary remedial works have been undertaken, and following consultation with local residents, we intend to re-open the areas to the public.
One of the more unfortunate aspects of our modern world is the ease with which information can spread, often without regard for accuracy or consequence. We would like to reaffirm our sincerest apologies for any concern caused by this article and encourage any residents with questions to reach out to us directly.
Sincerely,
The Belport Team
